The town of medieval origin surrounded by a great wall occupied the space of what today is the historic centre of Cadaqués.
Currently, only kept an ancient bulwark which formed part of the wall and is integrated into the Town Hall.
The village of Cadaqués, in Costa Brava.Paseando by the old town the traveller may step on the old floor of the village, the rastell. This type of flooring is handmade with stones taken from the sea that have been modeled by the waves.
The narrow street of the Call is that preserves rastell pavement in a better State. It adopts Spike and aims to absorb water and to prevent people from slipping.
The highest point of the old town is located in the Church of St. Maria de Cadaqués. From here there is a beautiful view of the village, the Bay of Cadaqués, is Cucurucuc and even the Cala Nans lighthouse.
The style that is striking is modernism both for its beauty and for its originality.
The majority of modernist buildings are located in front of the promenade and were built by cadaquesencs who became rich during his stay in America. As peculiarity I must add that some of these houses are really unique, because are inspired by architecture Cubana, fact that is observed in the wealth of vivid colors and the showiness of the materials used.
Some of the most emblematic buildings of Cadaques are:
Don Octavio Serinyana of House or Casa Blaua: Riba des Poal, s/n style modernista, period early century XX (1913-15) author Salvador Sellés and Baro.
P.s. Caritat Serinyana: to spread education, 1915 modernist. Calle Sol de l'Engirol, donation of the Serinyana family.
Casa Federico and Victor Rahola: Art Nouveau building located in the Frederic Rahola in the No. 6.
Torre de Colom: early 20th century modernist style house, located in Avenida Víctor Rahola. The Castle or tower was destroyed during the war "reapers". A wheat mill who disappeared was later built. When Mr Gabriel Colom bought the farm "el Castell", this lost the old name to be called the tower or Castle of Colom.
Parish Church of St. Maria: Plaza de la iglesia. The temple was started in the mid-16th century and is, for the most part, late Gothic style. The part of the ship closest to the front is 17th century (1634-1640) and the so-called 'Capella Fonda"is from the 17TH - 19th. At the front there is a round point and a rosette bow door. The old church was destroyed by the famous Turkish Barbarossa pirate who raided the village in the year 1543. After these facts, it was decided that the new temple is reconstructed with money from the fishermen who went to sea the forbidden days. Inside the church there is a splendid Baroque altarpiece of 23 m dedicated to the Virgen de la Esperanza.
Casino of friendship: ancient society of charity-the charity, founded at the end of the 19th century, neoclassical 1870.Sanctuary of san Baldirio: Temple of Baroque period situated between Cadaqués and Portlligat Creek, next to the current cemetery. 1702 Times. It was formerly dedicated to the Saints Abdón and Senent, the remains of which, according to tradition, were saved by the cadaquesencs after a shipwreck in Portlligat.
Oratorio San Pío V: sanctuary surmounted by a dome and Latin cross. Built by the inhabitants of the village to pay homage to Pope Pius V by the defeat of the Turkish pirates in the battle of Lepanto, the year 1571, in which almost 280 boats and 30000 men went to the meeting of the Turkish Navy. Cristinanas, guided by Juan of Austria, the destruieron armed ships.
Pius V was elected Pope in 1566, and was until his death in 1572. With the help of Luís de Requesens defended ecclesiastical liberty against the intervention of the Kings. The village of Cadaqués felt free of attacks of Turkish pirates and thanks construieron a chapel to honor his memory. After so many years, when I was well preserved, even receiving visits.Cala Nans Lighthouse: building of small cylindrical and white tower-shaped. Located on the southern edge of the port of Cadaqués, came into service the year 1864. Currently still in operation. The lighthouse has a small Jetty. At the end of the 1930s they deshabitaron it.Lighthouse of Cabo de Creus: located in the most eastern end of the peninsula. Considered the second oldest lighthouse in Catalonia, became operational the 1853. In addition to continue providing service to Mariners, today is the headquarters of the Cap de Creus space which is a point of information of the natural park of the Cabo de Creus.
Tower of the "Creus": ancient tower surveillance, square structure, with ground floor and floor. Probably was built during the 17TH century, destroyed and rebuilt in later periods. Seem to be having functions of monitoring and signaling. During the Carlist Wars women and creatures sheltering there. It is currently in ruins.
